Protective Leather Balm
How to Use
1. Clean dirt, buildup and other surface contaminants before conditioning. Ensure the leather is dry before applying.
2. Apply a small amount of Leather Dressing / Cream onto a lint-free cloth or rag. Rub in circular motions until the leather is fully coated. Once absorbed, you can buff the leather with a dry cloth.
3. Allow the leather to dry for an hour. Apply more conditioner as needed, stop applications once the leather no longer absorbs conditioner and wipe away any excess. Let it cure for 24 hours.
Best practices and tips and tricks for using Leather Balm:
Always clean leather properly and allow it to dry before conditioning.
Leather Cream can be applied by hand, without a cloth or rag. This may be preferable to some, as the warmth of your hand will slightly melt the Cream and may help it be absorbed by the leather.
A hair dryer or heat gun on low can be used 8+ away from the leather to encourage the conditioner to melt and be absorbed. Be very careful about applying too much heat directly to the leather.
For dry, cracked or faded leather that hasn't been treated in a long time, 2-5 applications may be necessary to fully condition and restore the leather. For new and/or properly treated leather, 1-3 applications should suffice.
Application frequency can be as often as once a month or as seldom as once or twice a year, depending on wear and tear, exposure to the elements and general usage.
Conditioning leather is a preventative measure, which should be done regularly, as needed. Properly
conditioned leather will last many times longer than unconditioned leather and is necessary for the leather to function properly over time.
Leather Cream may darken medium to light colored leather, with the darkening lessening over time.
For black and dark brown leathers, this is nearly unnoticeable. For lighter colored leather, this can be noticeable. We always recommend testing in a discrete area of the item before fully treating a leather item, to ensure that you are happy with any darkening that may occur.
Leather Cream are not intended for use on nubuck/suede or other non-smooth leathers. (In truth,
our conditioners can work well on these types of leather, but require more knowledge and care to properly condition) – Please refer to Care Guide for more details if you use the cream on Nubuck/Suede.
All ingredients are food-grade, natural and safe for use around children and pets. If ingested, there should be no danger to children or pets. Seed oils are used due to the low risk of allergic reactions, instead of nut or tree oils, which can be highly allergenic.
Conditioning leather introduces oils, fats and waxes deep into the leather fibers. Conditioning has many benefits - proper and consistent conditioning over the lifetime of a leather item will:
- Protect leather: Properly conditioned leather is ready to handle the elements, such as: liquids, spills, sun, light scratches, color transfer, abrasions and standard wear and tear. Leather that is properly conditioned regularly will be resistant to just about any type of damage you can throw at it.
- Restore leather: Small scratches, light fading and other minor damage will likely be healed once the leather has been properly conditioned. The introduction of animal fats provides the leather with the same compounds that were under the surface of the leather when it was a hide on the animal. These fats allow the leather to heal minor damage.
- Waterproof leather: The triple filtered beeswax deeply binds with the fibers of the leather to provide excellent waterproofing. Properly conditioned leather will be resistant to most types of light to moderate liquid damage.
- Enhance the look of leather: Properly conditioned leather can be buffed to a beautiful finish, be able to build a stunning patina over time and develop the unique character that well-loved leather items are known for.
- Storage: Always store leather items in a dark, dry place. Avoid storing leather items in direct sunlight, reduce exposure to liquids, moisture and damaging compounds like salt.

WATERPROOFING SPRAY
Recommended Product Instructions:
1. Clean dirt, buildup and surface contaminants. Ensure the leather is dry before applying.
2. Spray either directly onto the leather or onto a clean cloth and very gently spread over the surface of the leather evenly.
3. Reapply as needed after exposure to the elements. 2-3 applications are recommended for most situations.
Best practices and tips and tricks for using Waterproofing Spray:
Waterproofing Spray is made with a stable dispersion of Carnauba Wax that has been suspended in water. When the Waterproofing Spray is applied and allowed to dry, the water will evaporate leaving behind a thin layer of wax on the surface.
Waterproofing Spray is made with a small amount of tea tree oil to help inhibit the growth of mold and mildew.
Waterproofing Spray is a preemptive solution to leather that will be exposed to the elements, liquids and regular wear and tear. Apply before using the leather item, allowing enough time to fully dry.
Compared to many other waterproofing sprays on the market, ours is non-toxic, non-flammable and non-synthetic. Many other products use silicones, petroleum derivatives and other caustic chemicals - ours do not.

When conditioning suede and nubuck, the major difference is the lack of the top layer of leather that smooth leathers have. Without this top layer, the conditioner is still absorbed deeply by the fibers, but it can affect the look and feel of the nap surface. The main goal is preserving and restoring the nap finish while still conditioning and providing the leather with the fats, oil and waxes it needs to stay healthy and protected.
For using our products on nubuck/suede, this is the approach AUCLAIR would recommend:
Start by gently brushing away any dirt and dust on the surface with a soft bristle brush. (Optional: a suede eraser can be used to lift any other contaminants that are not removed with a brush, especially for specific problem spots. A toothbrush can also be gently used to lift contaminants from tight areas, stitching or folds.)
Then, dampen (not too wet) a lint-free cloth with Leather Spot Cleaner and gently scrub in circular motions to lift any other contaminants. (Spot Cleaner is not intended for lifting stains, color transfers or other deep-set issues.)
Gently brush the item again and allow it to fully dry.
With a lint-free cloth and a small amount of conditioner, begin conditioning with small circular motions. Once a small area is conditioned, gently brush to remove any excess conditioner. Repeat over the full surface of the item. By conditioning in small areas at a time, it is easier to maintain the nap throughout the process.
Allow the item to fully dry for ~24 hours before using.
In short: brush, clean, brush, condition, brush, dry!
A few additional recommendations:
Always test the conditioner in a discrete location on the item to ensure that you are comfortable with any darkening that may occur (whether it's smooth leather or suede/nubuck).
Darkening can be more pronounced on suede/nubuck due to the nature of the nap.
Gently brushing a suede or nubuck item after every use will reduce the long-term build up of contaminants and maintain the nap over time.
